"Nevada" by Guia Rivera is dedicated to Las Vegas
A long time ago... A
girl named Guia fell in love with a boy named Soulrane. They met in Champaign
(Illinois, that is). The boy was dancing in a bboy circle. And the girl was
writing poems at a table on the side. He came up to the girl to ask her name.
And she replied, Dance with me. He said, You're pretty. And the girl blushed. So
they started dancing to the rhythm of a reggae song. He came to her dorm the
next day. Sadly she had to leave for the Jersey shore. She told him she would
return to Champaign after the summer passed. But would their love last? He wrote
her letters of lovers' fantasies. And she replied, Will you take me to Las Vegas
with you? Will you sleep under the stars with me? He said, Yes. After the summer
passed, the girl returned to Champaign. But the boy was nowhere to be found.
They said he had already left for the desert, already on his journey. And so he
never came. That boy Soulrane...
