Track One

Silent Night |
Traditional |
Our collection begins with a beautiful version of "Silent Night" rendered by DreamSinger - AKA Demian Yurnei. Demian's music is a celebration of the human spirit and its ability to overcome obstacles. Says Demian, "I've learned that no matter what has transpired or is transpiring, there is tremendous power in the present moment of a choice. What about embracing yours, taking it back from your own doubts and fears or other people's dismissal? It's not too late you know. I released my first CD, published my first book and welcomed my first grandchild shortly before I turned 50." |

Sweet Light |
2006 Malea McGuinness From the CD "True Believer" |
Malea McGuinness' impressive accomplishments are far too numerous to list in this small space. Suffice it to say - she's just about done it all. Opera, broadway, modeling, film, television, music and more. "Sweet Light" was influenced by Malea’s experience of having a father who was a Green Beret, a
grandfather who fought in Iwo Jima, and a response to the men and women fighting
in Iraq today. While not a typical "holiday" song, Sweet
Light does express the hope and optimism of the season and is a grand showcase for all of Malea’s inherent
talents and musical passion. |

Puddle of Melted Snow |
Written and performed by Cynthia Wang |
Los Angeles-based Cynthia Wang is a regular contributor to ATO. We love her personal, direct lyrics - her clear, angelic voice and her outstanding guitar accompaniment. Most of Cynthia's music deals with love and loss - and her holiday song, "Puddle of Melted Snow" is no exception. And that's a good thing, because this tune is hauntingly poignant in a way few seasonal songs can match. Cynthia calls it "the most depressing Christmas song ever written". We respectfully disagree. You decide. |

The Christmas Song |
Performed by Natalie Oei Writers: Torme/Wells |
Taking our sampler back into familiar territory is Natalie Oei's marvelous rendition of "The Christmas Song" - a true classic by Mel "Velvet Fog" Torme and Bob Wells. You're probably most attached to the Nat King Cole version of this tune -- but that might change after you hear Natalie's reading. Natalie is a California R&B, electronica and pop singer -- but if ever there was a voice made for holiday music - hers is it! Check out more Natalie on the ATO Jukebox. |

Silent Night |
Performed by Natalie Oei Writer: debated, but generally credited to Joseph Mohr, 1816. |
The German words for the original six stanzas of the carol we know as "Silent Night" were written by Joseph Mohr in 1816, when he was a young priest assigned to a pilgrimage church in Mariapfarr, Austria. Chances are Mohr never imagined the enduring worldwide popularity his song would enjoy - nor would he have believed his song would be translated into just about every language and recorded literally thousands of times. This version -- though short -- is one of the best. Joe Mohr would have approved. |
