Fusing the grooves of Neo-soul with socially conscious lyricism, Dawen Wang explores the American dream. As a singer-songwriter, Dawen hopes his music will further the dialogue on racism and social injustice in American society. Influences range from Erykah Badu and Bob Marley, to Charles Mingus and Mozart. A graduate of Northwestern University, Dawen was classically trained as a vocalist and has been singing and playing piano since he was six years old. Dawen also plays guitar and the mbira dzavadzimu. Based in Chicago, Dawen has performed at venues such as FitzGerald's, The Note, Lily's, Bill's Blues Bar and the University of Illinois - Chicago. Fresh off winning the Avant Grande Music Contest 2007 sponsored by Starbucks and WXRT 93 FM radio, Dawen begins the new year with the release of his eponymous EP debut, available now.
